Meet the WPI team

7Cam William Downey: Is a 20 year old junior from Rehoboth, Massachusetts attending WPI and studying Mechanical Engineering. On campus he is an executive committee member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the director of “Guerilla Improv” comedy group. Cam enjoys playing guitar and working on his motorcycle. His current career goal is to develop a start-up company in the next few years. In his time working in South Africa he has found new appreciation for minimalistic lifestyles, the importance and difficulties of communication, and respect for what people can accomplish through collaboration.

Paul Frederick Danielson: Is 20 years old and a junior at WPI, studying Mechanical Engineering. He was born in Niskayuna, New York and has lived there his whole life. In his spare time, he enjoys fixing old things and building new things, and spending time in the workshop. He is also a member of the men’s varsity crew team, and has been rowing since high school. Paul hopes to have an engineering job that gives him the opportunity to design and create solutions to problems, and continue learning more about building things and construction.

 

 

9Veronica Isabel Soto-Belloso: Is 20 years old and a junior at WPI, studying Industrial Engineering and International Studies. She is originally from Venezuela and was raised in Puerto Rico. She is the Vice President of the Global Humanitarian Alliance and the Secretary of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. She loves to play soccer and to eat chocolate. She works on campus as an OASIS House Staff for the Office of Multicultural Affairs. She hopes to incorporate humanitarian work into her future career path as well as travel the world. This project helped her see things from a different perspective and sparked her creativity for future projects.

Justice Malik Williams: Is 20 years old and from Ballston Spa New York. Justice is a junior at WPI getting his degree in Industrial Engineering. He is Vice-President of the Black Student Union and Programs Chair of the National Society of Black Engineers. He loves hiking mountains, playing soccer and riding his bike during his free time. Justice hopes to make a lasting difference while in Cape Town and hopes to see the rest of the world someday.

Amy Seymour Krayer: Is 21 years old and from East Hanover, New Jersey. She is a junior at WPI majoring in environmental engineering. She is currently a member of Alpha Phi sorority as well as Engineers Without Borders. She also works for the student-run driving service on campus. In her free time she enjoys listening to music and swimming. She hopes to travel the world in her personal time as well as for work. In her time in South Africa, she has enjoyed exploring new places and getting to know the community members of K2.

 

 

WPI Advisors: Nicola Bulled and Scott Jiusto were the advisors for the Cape Town Project Centre this year. They helped to mediate important conversations with community members and sponsors as well as guide us throughout our project.
