New Journal & Ebook Search – The Library Catalog!

Thu, Dec 17, 2009

Over winter break the library will be moving to a new platform provided by Serials Solutions which allows library staff to more fully integrate information on our variety of ebook, print, and electronic journal collections into the online library catalog. Users should use the online catalog to discover journal titles or ebooks as well as for all other library materials. We will roll out a new Journal & Ebook Search interface to quickly find or browse items by title or title keywords. It will allow allows users to now search for journal titles by abbreviations or alternate titles. The link to the journal search will change but continue to lead users the specific database(s) or site(s) which provides the full text of the journal, magazine or newspaper needed.

The benefits to users will be more frequent updating of ebooks within our online catalog as well as more accurate, up-to-date information on journal subscriptions within a familiar interface: the WPI Library Catalog.

Our FullTextFinder will also improve as we switch to a new OpenURL link resolver provider (also Serials Solutions). The FullTextFinder will continue to link researchers to full text of articles within databases and Use to discover whether or not WPI has a subscription to the reference needed. The result may be a direct link to full text of the article or paper or links that direct researchers to obtain the full text through Google Scholar or to use ILLiad, our interlibrary loan system which allows users to request items from other libraries. Questions or comments are welcome.
