In and Around the Library

The Gordon Library is hosting free trials of several streaming video services starting March 10, 2014 and continuing through D Term.

For the first four weeks of the trial period, all members of the WPI community will have access to two large academic collections, the Master Academic Collection from Films on Demand and the Academic Video Online: Premium from Alexander Street Press.

The Master Academic Collection includes 15,500 entire films and 241,000 clips and covers a broad range of subjects and disciplines organized into sub-collections. You can search for films by subject, title, segment, date, etc.  All films are segmented and allow for embedding into course sites.  You can create playlists and save favorites as well as export citations.

Our trial of Academic Video Online: Premium offers over 10,000 hours of content with more than 20,000 films in 29 collections.  Powerful search tools and access to experts’ clips and playlists help distinguish this rich multidisciplinary collection.  (Please note that content in the health sciences is not included as part of this free trial).

These two collections are available to everyone in the WPI community until April 9, 2014 after which date we will be offering access to two other streaming video collections, so stay tuned for updates.  However, between March 10 and April 9, please check out these collections and let us know what you think and if you would find them useful for research or teaching.

As the Collections Assessment and Development Librarian, I try to make sure that the library has the resources needed to serve the entire WPI community. I've been with the Gordon Library since January 2014.
