“Stay Calm and Search On!” with Patents Real Fast

Learn how Patents Real Fast (PRF) Query works by watching this video.

Are you challenged by crafting successful patent searches? Unsure how to work each of the different free-to-use patents databases? If you answered “Yes!” to these questions, then Patents Real Fast is your place to start!

Patents Real Fast is a searching tool developed by Peter Fenner, WPI ’64, to assist researchers with developing and refining search strings that are effective for multiple patents databases, including freepatentsonline.com, USPTO, Google, and Google Scholar.

Currently free to the WPI community, you can access Patents Real Fast by registering as a WPI user. Patents Real Fast is also accessible from Gordon Library’s A-Z Databases list and is included as a resource on the library’s Patent Resources & Intellectual Property Guide. Once logged in, you can automate your search process with the PRF Query tool, which extracts keywords and then automatically constructs the search strings for different databases and needs.
