Officially Open

Let the games begin!

Opening Ceremony
Yesterday was the opening ceremony for Solar Decathlon China 2013. We’ve pulled some long shifts and orchestrated some “creative problem solving,” but we made it and we’re excited for the next steps. The ceremony included speeches by the mayor of Datong and Dr. David Danielson, Assistant Secretary of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy within the U.S. Department of Energy. Each team (decked out in their awesome uniforms) walked across the stage to strong applause—quite the ego boost! It was great to see so much team pride. On Friday, the houses opened for VIP guests. A delegation from the Belgian Embassy and Dr. Danielson both visited Solatrium.

Day 1 – Public Exhibition
Today was the first day of the public exhibition. Almost 3,000 visitors toured Solatrium. This gave the team a little time to practice their crowd management skills. The visitors were very curious about the house, and quite impressed with the interior design.
