Summer PD program registration process:

  1. Go to: https://wpi-summer.edu.185r.net/application/login/
  2. Create an account by choosing a username and a password
  3. Log in with your username and password
  4. Click on : Application for Admission to Summer Program
  5. When choosing the program in the program menu, scroll down to the –>Adult Programs<–. All PD opportunities are presented under the “Adult Programs” heading.
  6. Following the registration you will get an email with payment information.

Engineering Lens

For: PK-5 grade teachers, teacher librarians, homeschool parents, informal educators

Date and Time: July 8-10, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm            Cost: $320       16 PDPs

Learn how to integrate the engineering design practices with every book. This fun, interdisciplinary, project based approach allows you to lead your students through the process of problem solving using engineering practices.

 Lego Robotics  – LIMITED SPACE

For: 3-8 grade teachers, FLL teams advisors, informal educators

Date and Time: July 29- August 2, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm             Cost: $455           35 PDPs               

Cohort of teachers will learn the basics of robotics and the engineering design process through planning, constructing, programming and competing with LEGO© MINDSTORMS© robots. Teachers will participate in the program alongside of middle school students. 

Project Based STEM Activities and Assessments

For: 6-12 grade teachers, FIRST teams advisers

Date and Time: July 15-18, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm             Cost: $395           24 PDPs

Join fellow teachers for a series of design challenges in a variety of STEM topics: Ecosystems and the environment, heat transfer, center of gravity, and robotics. Participants will work in small teams to solve the design challenge and spend the afternoon to modify the activity for their classroom and develop assessment that matches their standards.

Vex Robotics for Educators – LIMITED SPACE

For: 6-12 grade teachers, FIRST team advisers

Date and Time: August 5-9, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm             Cost: $455           35 PDPs               

In this introductory course to Vex robotics you will be part of a cohort of teachers, working alongside high school students, and learn about the mechanics, sensors, and programming of Vex robots. The group will discuss STEM education topics in relation to robotics. The program will culminate in a robotics challenge.

Advanced Vex Robotics for EducatorsLIMITED SPACE

For: 7-12 grade teachers, FIRST team advisers

Date and Time: July 22-30 (full day on Sat 7/27), 8:30 am – 4:30 pm          Cost:$700     56PDPs               

In this robotics course a cohort of teachers will be working alongside high school student to learn the theory and practice behind Vex robotics. Participants will learn to build and design their own Vex robot, learn about different sensors and how to use them, program a robot and participate in a robotics challenge against the other participating teams. A daily session on STEM education topics will result in developing a robotics unit for your students.
