Fall 2012

Worcester Community Project Center students     Fall 2012

During WPI’s B term (October 23-December 13, 2012), 20 WPI undergraduate students from a variety of majors engaged in six different community engagement projects.

Fall 2012 projects include:

  • on-campus sustainability related initiatives,
  • assessing exposure rates of low-income and minority communities in Worcester to environmental hazards,
  • with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, assisting Central Massachusetts’ municipalities with stormwater permit compliance,
  • helping a neighboring town draft a climate action plan and
  • helping a local not for profit assess and update its information technology systems.

In preparation for their community engagement project, a.k.a. Interactive Qualifying Project or IQP, students took a preparatory course where they drafted project proposals contextualizing the issue their project is tackling and detailing a proposed methodology for accomplishing their project objectives.
