Young Alumnus’ Unwavering Connection to Alma Mater

June 15, 2022

It was no surprise Hasson S. Harris Wilcher ’17 was back on the Hill for Alumni Weekend this year. As a member of the Student Alumni Society (SAS), Black Student Union (BSU), Class Board, The Alliance, Masque, Kilroy Sketch Comedy, Students Preventing Assault and Rape in Our Community (SPARC), and the Global Humanitarian Alliance (GHA), the biomedical engineering major was an active community member during his time on campus. “WPI means a lot to me; I spent four years of my life there and the friends I made along the way feel like family to me. My connection to the university is rooted in that strong sense of community, and as long as a WPI community exists, I will be around to engage with it.” says Harris Wilcher.

Beyond the time and talent Harris Wilcher graciously shares with his alma mater, is his financial support of the university. When asked about his philanthropic giving Harris Wilcher says, “WPI’s project-based curriculum equipped me with knowledge, skill, the ability to develop a plan, and the confidence to execute that plan. Because of WPI, I have had the opportunity to teach, diagnose, repair, consult, design, and practice engineering; WPI has given a lot to me, so in turn I want to give back to WPI.” From the WPI Emergency Assistance Fund and the Dr. Deborah Jackson Endowed Fund for BIPOC Students, to support for SAS and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Programs and Initiatives, Harris Wilcher is part of WPI’s long-standing tradition of philanthropic giving by alumni.
