CC
/sí sí/ /centro do campus/ /campus center/
Place you go to pretend to do work but really just want to hangout with your friends. Where you spend all your money at Dunkin Donuts. You will find at least one of the Brazilians when you go there.
FI
/éf ái/ /éstudio de inovação do foisie/ /foisie innovation studio/
Don’t get confused: everyone calls it “Foisie” but if you have any classes there, “FI” will be on your schedule. Newest building at WPI. Ongoing debate on whether Foisie is better than the CC. You will always find people in meetings but you won’t always find an available study space. Don’t get caught eating or drinking at the Makerspace. BRASA’s exec meetings are usually there if we manage to book a techsuite in time.
SL
/és él/ /laboratórios de salisbury/ /salisbury labs/
WPI’s third oldest building, completed in 1898. Home to the newly renovated lecture hall with chairs that only spin either
left or right and whiteboards around the whole room. Humanities & Arts department can be found here. Where the Brazilians always practice for our outstanding International Dinner performance.
AK
/ei kei/ /laboratórios de atwater kent/ /atwater kent labs/
First building in the country dedicated to education in electrical engineering. From an aerial view, it looks like the letter “E”. Everyone has had at least one class in AK 116. Usually packed with people doing projects. BRASA’s Vice- President basically lived in AK his sophomore year.
FL
/éf el/ /laboratórios de fuller/ /fuller labs/
Heart of WPI’s high-speed computer network, which reaches every classroom, lab, office, and residence hall room on campus, as well as off-campus fraternity and sorority houses. Fuller Upper is the place to be for SocComm’s movie nights. Home to the longest and most exhausting stairway at WPI. When we have meetings there, at least one BRASA member will get lost trying to find the conference rooms.
BME
biêmi/ /engenharia biomédica/ /biomedical engineering/
A very diverse field. Among other things, BMEs design biomedical equipment and devices and conduct research to develop new breakthroughs in the field. WPI offers specializations not concentrations. Due to the lack of investment in scientific research in Brazil, here we are. No, we are not all women, and no, we don’t spend all day in a lab.
ME
/em í/ /engenharia mecânica/ /mechanical engineering/
WPI’s oldest and largest department. If you are unsure what major to choose within engineering, ME is a great option. 50% of the requirements are electives, so you can choose an academic path targeted at what interests you most. The concentrations offered at WPl are: Biomechanics, Engineering Mechanics, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Mechanical Design, Robotics, and Thermal-Fluid Engineering.
IE
/ai í/ /engenharia industrial/ /industrial engineering/
Industrial engineers have a crucial role, serving as a bridge between engineering and management to analyze and adapt processes or create new ones. At WPI, it’s known among students as the ‘fake engineering’, in which students only have to do simple math and no actual science. What most of these people don’t know is that in 10 years, the IE majors will probably be their bosses.
CS
/sí és/ /ciências da computação/ /computer science/
A diverse and varied field. WPI offers courses and specializations in areas such as human-robotic interaction, intelligent tutoring and educational data mining, bioinformatics, computer security and privacy, and graphics and animation, among many others. It has the best starting salary of all WPI majors, but it’s also one of the hardest. Legend says CS majors still have nightmares about CS1101.
