A look back: WPI’s 2013 Energy Symposium

As the sixth-annual Energy Symposium approaches, we’re reminiscing about the event’s history. Last time, we talked about the symposium’s beginnings, and today we take another step forward in the past.

Power-HS-LPIn the fall of 2013, WPI welcomed an array of experts from the power industry for the third annual energy symposium. The topic was one of great importance to the future of power: the creation of a solid, diverse body of new power engineers to meet the growing need for well-qualified professionals in this field.

Gordon van Welie, President and Chief Executive Officer of ISO New England, delivered the day’s keynote speech, which discussed the future of energy delivery and ISO’s role in these developments. Other topics of the day included WPI’s involvement in preparing its students for the opportunities and challenges of the changing power industry and careers in the field. Furthering the mission of the day, graduate and undergraduate students had the chance to build relationships with established professionals in the world of power systems.
