Principal Investigator
Aswin Gnanaskandan, Principal Investigator (CV) (scholar)
Prof. Aswin Gnanaskandan joined the WPI faculty in August 2020 as an assistant professor. His research experience prior to WPI includes a Postdoctoral Researcher position at California Institute of Technology, USA, a Research Scientist position at Dynaflow Inc, USA, and a Scientist position at the Defense Research and Development Laboratory, India. His area of research is Computational Fluid Dynamics where he specializes in developing high-fidelity models for multiphase flows. At WPI, he directs the Computational Multiphase Transport Laboratory, where he and his students are involved in modeling, computation, and analysis of multiphase flows.

Diego Vaca Revelo, PhD Student

Diego Vaca Revelo holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Ecuador, in 2018. He was a Fulbright Fellow from 2020-2022 and completed his M.S. in 2022 at WPI. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Mechanical & Materials Engineering department at WPI focusing on modeling microbubble interaction with ultrasound for biomedical applciations. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Diego cultivates diverse interests, including photography, hiking, and video gaming.
Yunhao Zhang, PhD Student

Yunhao Zhang received his B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Southern University of Science and Technology, China, in 2019, and his M.S. degrees in both Industrial Engineering and Forest Biomaterials from North Carolina State University, USA, in 2022. He is currently a Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). His research focuses on developing surrogate models for bubble dynamics using deep learning.
Anurag Bhattcharjee, PhD Student

Anurag Bhattacharjee holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Agartala (2014) and M.S from Universitat Polytechnica de Catalunya, Spain, and Swansea University, UK (2019), with a focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics. He is currently a PhD candidate in Mechanical & Materials Engineering at WPI working on modeling slurry droplet evaporation in a spray dryer. Beyond academia, Anurag indulges in diverse interests, including hiking, rock climbing, sketching, and playing video games during his leisure time.
Mahdi Lavari, PhD Student

Mahdi holds both BSc and MSc in Aerospace Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering department, focusing on multiscale modeling multiphase flows. Additionally, he is also exploring the application of Machine Learning techniques to model bubble dynamics and turbulence.
