Near Real Time Sub-ppm Detection of Elements in Pure Metals/Alloys

The objective of this project is to investigate and compare near-real-time methods for sub-ppm level analysis of elements in pure metals and alloys. Due to increasing demands for performance and life on lead-acid batteries, industry must set maximum specifications for certain elements in the lead to </= 1 ppm levels.  Confirmation of these levels in recycled and purchased lead must be performed as quickly as possible, especially if intended for use while processing lots of recycled lead in the smelter operations. However, current technologies were not capable of rapid results at the necessary detection limits.
