Recruiter’s Toolbox: Resume Resources
At the WPI Career Development Center (CDC), we believe in the value of connecting employers and students for mutual benefit. One of the easiest ways for students and employers to communicate is through the traditional resume. Although this document has been around since Leonardo da Vinci created the first official resume in 1482, we find that students still benefit from receiving assistance on how to present their education and experience in a clear and concise way. Since employers like yourself rely on the quality of these documents to select appropriate candidates for your needs, the CDC has developed two services to assist both students and employees in the resume sphere:
Resume Critiquing Events
Resume critiquing events, like Resumazing, involve employers coming to campus to meet one-on-one with students to provide feedback on their resumes. During these casual interactions, professionals provide advice ranging from resume organization to language and grammar edits. Students describe this event as “invaluable” because of the opportunity to receive constructive criticism from companies in their fields of interest. In addition, students benefit from an employer’s perspective on what stands out and what pitfalls to avoid.
Employers who have participated tell us that they enjoy interacting with students while learning more about WPI’s academic disciplines and unique project requirements. They also find it a wonderful way to highlight their company and build relationships with young professionals who are entering the workforce.
