For partner organizations
Worcester Polytechnic Institute students participate in two significant projects, one during the junior year and one during the senior year. Students at the Hawai‘i Project Center are generally working to complete their junior year projects, known as the Interactive Qualifying Project or IQP.
This project challenges WPI students, who are generally gaining expertise in science or engineering, to address complex problems at the interface of a technological discipline and society. Thus, such projects may involve developing technological solutions to real-world problems, or may ask teams to develop approaches to mitigate or offset undesirable impacts of technology on people or their environments.
Most WPI students complete their IQPs at one of our many project centers distributed globally. Through this project experience, students gain practical experience at applying their theoretical knowledge to effect change on local and regional scales, and with a broad global distribution of project centers, the cumulative impact of WPI project teams is impressive.
