Digital Tools for Making and Monitoring of Hawaiian Seed Gardens
Partner organization: Protect & Preserve Hawaiʻi
Team members: Kyra Brown, Jeremy De La Cruz, Santiago Giraldo, Pranav Gupta, Skyler Wiernik
This project, conducted in collaboration with Protect and Preserve Hawaiʻi (PPH), focuses on the development of digital tools to promote the adoption of rain gardens as a sustainable solution for stormwater management and ecosystem restoration.
Through surveys and volunteer consultations, we identified key homeowner motivations and barriers to participation. Based on these insights, we developed an Augmented Reality (AR) visualization tool, an ArcGIS StoryMap for educational outreach, and SeedSync, a digital platform for garden monitoring.
Our tools aim to enhance community engagement, simplify information access, and support PPH’s conservation efforts in the Ala Wai Watershed. By integrating technology with environmental initiatives, our project provides a scalable model for fostering public participation in ecosystem restoration.
