What kinds of projects are available at the Hawaiʻi Project Center?

At any WPI project center, it’s likely that the specific projects that will be available for your cohort will not be decided until shortly before your preparatory term begins.

For this reason, it’s not possible for you to know exactly what sorts of projects you’ll be able to choose from. However, many project centers have a general focus, like sustainability or environmental problems, and that is a good indicator of the general nature of projects likely to be available to you. Browsing the titles and executive summaries of recent projects completed at a center will also give you a good idea of what kinds of projects you can expect. You can find information about all projects completed at the HPC under the “Projects” tab.

Hawaiʻi is biogeographically and culturally unique; many of the projects we do will focus on problems related to sustainability and biocultural approaches to solving environment challenges. Projects that are outside those areas may also be available. However, whatever project you work on, you will learn a great deal about the history, culture, and environment of this amazing place!

Contact the center director if you would like more information about projects at the HPC, or have other questions.
