Combat system is a very broad topic in video games. Sometimes it can be very simple, like “Rock, Paper and Scissors”. But sometimes, especially in 3A games, combat system can be extremely complicated. For example, the combat system of Monster Hunter is extraordinary. But essentially, what is the so-called “Combat System”. This article offers a very interesting response. So according to this article, combat system is a system that will force players to make choices in a very short time. It is about the design of the balance between reward and risk. This article uses many examples to illustrate its points. Also, it briefly introduces how combat system can affect enemy design. I think it will be a good start point for people who want to design their own combat system.
