The WPI Library now provides access to the ASTM Standards and Engineering Digital Library.
“Standardization has had, and continues to have, a major impact on our lives. Yet most people know little about its effects. We are influenced by standards on a daily basis, including our method of communication, the products we use, how we travel to work, and what we eat.” – The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
The ASTM Digital Library covers a broad range of engineering disciplines, including aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, environmental, geological, health and safety, industrial, materials science, mechanical, nuclear, petroleum, soil science, and solar engineering. WPI network users can now access ASTM’s 12,000 standards in more than 130 industry areas.
Find standards such as those related to Medical Device Standards and Implant Standards or specific standards such as E1991-05: Standard Guide for Environmental Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Building Materials/Products. There is even one on the Safety of Bean Bag Chairs. If you are designing a baseball field, you may wish to peruse the Standard Guide for Fences for Baseball and Softball Fields.
You will also find full text of ASTM manuals such as:
- MNL22-2ND Business Performance Excellence through Total Quality Management 2nd Edition
- MNL1-8TH Significance of Tests for Petroleum Products: 8th Edition
- MONO7 Physics and Chemistry of Micro-Nanotribology
- DS67C Handbook of Comparative World Steel Standards
- MNL43-2ND Technical Aspects of Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments: 2nd Edition
Any engineer embarking on a research or design project should be informed about standards which may apply, learn more at libguides.wpi.edu/standards.
