Gordon Library and fun? Skeptics keep reading…

Posted in In and Around the Library

Find board games at the libraryWhat are some fun things you can do in the library (besides read books, study, meet project teams)?

Well I think reading is pretty fun on its own, the library has a bit more to offer than just books. The first thing that I can think of is the computers and internet access available for WPI students and faculty. While the computers in the library are mostly used for academics, catching up on the latest news or checking Facebook isn’t off limits. If you’re studying with a group of friends there are some board games on the third floor, and you might be surprised by the variety of different games the library owns. There is the usual chess, checkers, and trivial pursuit along with more unusual games. On the same floor near the games, you can find DVDs to borrow, and there is quite an extensive collection.  (CDs and audiobooks are also in that area of the library).

Faculty FAQs: Off Campus Access, Ordering Materials, Course Reserves & More

Faculty FAQSThe library staff welcome the many new faculty to campus. Common questions surfaced at the recent New Faculty Orientation so we wanted to share. Ask us if you have additional questions about course or research needs.

How can I access Gordon Library databases, eJournals, and eBooks off campus?

The Library uses EZProxy, which will prompt you to enter your WPI credentials when you access library resources from off campus.  Just be sure to start your research at

NOTE: WPI has a proxy server for those who prefer that method of access. Learn more about the proxy server.

How can I request materials such as books or films for the library’s collection?

Yes, contact your department head to see how ordering is done in your department or use our Suggest a Purchase form.

May I suggest the library purchase new electronic journal subscriptions?

Yes, you may use Suggest a Purchase form to recommend journals. Requests are reviewed annually in September, so submit any requests right away. Requests should include a justification of need and will be evaluated on the importance of the subject area for WPI and whether Gordon Library can support the subscription/license on a long term basis.

How can I put course texts on reserve?

Learn about Course Reserves & myWPI eReadings. Send questions to Ginny Julian, Access Services Coordinator.

Can I post .pdf files of articles from websites and/or Library databases onto myWPI?
Linking to the item is the best approach but in some cases fair use may apply.  For items within library subscribed eResources use the EZProxy prefix to ensure your students can access the readings from home or off campus:
