Well if I have my WPI ID on me (which of course I always do) I just need to head to the Information Desk and ask the student employees behind the desk (really nicely of course) for an external hard drive to borrow. It’s a really, really super size GB-wise (but compact) USB drive.
The Library Information Desk is more than just a place to check out and return books. You can reserve and check out keys to TECH SUITES (which are awesome rooms which have a plasma TV and are a great space for teams to work), check out some TEXTBOOKS from the RESERVE shelf (which professors put on hold at the library so you can check them out for 3 hours at a time and use them in the library) and check out some of the cool stuff I’ve listed below.
The library Information Desk has equipment you can borrow:
- Headphones & some with with Microphones
- Hard Drives
- Scientific Calculators
- White Boards (and dry erase markers)
- Ethernet Cables
- VGA Cables
- Flip Video Cameras
- Ear Plugs
- Power Strips
- Staplers, including some that go thru large IQP-sized reports!
- 3 Hole Punches
- Pens and Pencils
The same day as when I needed a flash drive in the library I had a camera, and really wanted to take pictures of the new patio (donated by the Class of 2012), but I wanted a tripod so I can make sure it’s a great picture. I asked the friendly people at the Information Desk and unfortunately the desk doesn’t have tripods, though they did refer me to the ATC which does (borrow them from ATC in Fuller Labs). Below is a list of some of the things the Information Desk does not have. If you need something and aren’t sure if we have it, don’t be afraid to ask, we’ll do our best to help you find what you need or point you in the right direction!
- Flash Drives
- Computer Mice
- Change for a $20 bill
And now great, my laptop isn’t connecting to the wireless, and I want to go outside on that beautiful patio to work on my paper due tomorrow. Luckily the TECHNOLOGY HELPDESK is right in the library. I’ll just head to them and ask for help. All they had to do was hit a few buttons, and now I get wireless on campus again (which is a really great thing)! What else does the helpdesk have?
- iPhone & other cell phone chargers
- Micro USB Charger
- Mini USB Charger
