More Items on Reserve Thanks to the SGA

Posted in In and Around the Library, and Resources and Services

The Gordon Library and the SGA are collaborating again to make some textbooks available for students as reserve items!

For some of the classes that have 100+ students, we work at getting the textbook for that class, either from our own collection or from professors and their departments. If we cannot get the textbook, we send the SGA the titles of the needed books along with the price of those items for their approval. Once approved, these books are placed on the reserve shelf for students to use during the term. This is a positive step in getting needed textbooks into the hands of our students. After the term is over, those SGA copies go into our general collection.

We are collaborating with the SGA throughout the year.  Stop by each term to see what we have on course reserves!

Library Student Staff Orientation

Posted in In and Around the Library, and Staff Highlights

The library had a fantastic turnout this past Saturday, with a total of 39 students attending the beginning of the year orientation meeting.   It is interesting to note that about half of these students are brand new student staff.  To begin the day students played human bingo and got to know more about their student co-workers.  After the icebreaker, the students participated in sessions which covered topics such as:  customer service, research tips, curation, preservation, archives, as well a special session for our student supervisors.

Great student staff turnout!

Librarian at Gateway

Posted in In and Around the Library

To further support the WPI community, I’ll be holding “office hours” at Gateway in the 3rd floor kitchenette during A-term.

I’ll be there every Tuesday and Thursday from 3-5, and every other Monday and Friday from 3-5.  That’s a bit cumbersome to remember, but you can check out this guide with my Gateway Hours.

Stop in for help using EndNote or any of the library services, or just to say hello.
