Gordon Library’s Archives is partnering with WPI’s Marketing and Communications and Alumni Relations to collect images of WPI people, places, and events from the late 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s for possible use in an updated volume of WPI’s history being written in conjunction with WPI 150 celebrations.
We’ve been given an image research “wish list” by the book’s writers that includes:
- images of meetings and events related to the WPI Plan in action
- project centers and WPI’s global presence
- research labs and centers
- athletics events
- student groups and events
- building demolition and construction
- campus events, including inaugurations, commencements, and campus-wide gatherings (town halls)
- citation recipients and prize winners
- candids of notable WPI people in/on campus
We do have over 100,000 images between the Archives, Marketing, and Alumni that we are searching through to respond to the writers’ requests. We will also be contacting several departments directly over the next few weeks as part of our research efforts.
However, we know that many faculty, staff, students, and alums have their own photos of WPI moments large and small. If you have some that you are willing to add to the Archive and share for possible publication purposes, please let us know as soon as possible!
Alumni has set up an online collection form for uploading a few digital photos, available here: http://bit.ly/1qK8M3L.
If you have a large number of digital images you’d like to share, please contact us at email@example.com to make arrangements for a digital donation or file transfer.
Prints can also be dropped off or sent via U.S. or campus mail to the Archives, c/o Gordon Library, WPI, 100 Institute Road, Worcester, MA 01609 . Please include your name and email sending through the mail.
We will add any digital or physical photos received to the archival collections, or we scan and return them to you – whichever you prefer! If you have any questions about quantity, quality, content, or rights, please ask us by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 508-831-6112.
From the bottom of our Gompei-loving hearts – and, coincidentally, the bottom floor of Gordon Library – Thank you for your help!
