November is Native American Heritage Month. Drop by the Gordon Library 3rd Floor to view an interactive display and various demonstrations on Thursday, November 15 anytime between 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Special performances at the  Campus Center Stage (Food Court) will be held from noon-1pm.

This event is sponsored by Gordon Library and the  Office of Diversity and Women’s Programs.

WPI Welcome’s New Research Librarians: Rachel Zyirek and Rebecca Ziino

Rachel Zyirek, Research & Instruction Librarian, Science & Engineering Graduate Services

Rachel Zyirek began Monday September 17 as Research and Instruction Librarian – Science and Engineering Graduate Support Services.  She earned her Masters of Science, Library and Information Sciences from Simmons College as well as a Masters of Art, Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology from Boston College and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certification. She spent the last year teaching English in Dalian, Liaoning, China, which provides her with a unique ability to support and work with WPI’s many international students.

Rachel brings to WPI 10+ years of library instruction experience. She worked at Babson College for a number of years as an Instruction Librarian and then went on to Wentworth Institute of Technology as an Instructional Services Librarian. She currently teaches at WIT as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Arts & Sciences, which she will continue with through December.  Rachel will be working at WPI 32 hours through December on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. In January she will move into her at WPI role full time.

Rachel supports graduate students and will work closely with faculty to develop a curriculum to better educate graduate science and engineering students on research & information literacy skills. She serves as library liaison to Biology/Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry/Biochemistry, and Chemical Engineering.   

Rebecca Ziino
Rebecca Ziino, Research & Instruction Librarian, First Year Services

Rebecca Ziino started as Research & Instruction Librarian for First Year Services on July 24th. She received her Masters in Library and Information Science from Simmons in 2010 and her Bachelor of Arts in History from Skidmore in 2007. She studied abroad in the UK. Since 2011 she has been working at MIT’s Office of Corporate Relations Industrial Liaison Program where she gained experience using science/engineering research tools and worked closely with faculty and researchers. Prior she worked at Simmons College Beatley Library at the Access Services desk. She also worked as a senior in college as a peer mentor within a First Year Seminar, so she’s excited to be able to provide research support to students at a different level & to help us build our personal librarian program with first year students & Great Problems Seminar faculty. She is also working with First Year INSIGHT groups and the wellness program. Rebecca share’s an office with Stacy Schwartz in Library 202A.
