MHT director, Jamal Yagoobi, is leading exciting new research that will drastically cut emissions and energy use.

Professor Jamal Yagoobi is the founding director of  The Center for Advanced Research in Drying (CARD) which is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) devoted to research in drying of moist, porous materials such as food and other agricultural products, forestry products, chemical products, textiles, and biopharmaceuticals.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts, is the lead institution, and works closely with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

CARD is the first center of its kind in the United States with special emphasis on energy reduction and improving our carbon footprint.  The center’s focus is on assisting U.S. manufacturing industries to become environmentally sustainable and developing enhancements in drying processes that yield a measurable impact on global energy conservation.
