NSF Funds New Fundamental Project – Electron Beam Atomic Spectroscopy (EBAS)

A new technique called Electron Beam Atomic Spectroscopy (EBAS) has much promise for altering the way high temperature metals are processed. More specifically, EBAS is a method to determine elemental compositions by measuring the atomic emission spectra produced when an electron beam impinges on a target metal.  NSF has awarded a grant to Worcester Polytechnic Institute to conduct research on EBAS.  Paul Gasper who has recently joined the Center for Resource Recovery & Recycling (CR3) will be working on this NSF grant with Diran Apelian, Director of CR3. Project sponsors are ERCo and H.C. Starck, two of the CR3 IAB members.
