About Winter Percussion

Have a competitive spirit? Winter Percussion is for you! The WPI Winter Percussion competes in NESBA’s Private Independent Open class and we travel around New England to participate in various competitions.

Auditions for Winter Percussion take place in A-term- no experience required! Open rehearsals are held the weeks leading up to auditions to allow people to practice and get a feel for the instruments. Once the season begins, rehearsals take place in the evening and become more frequent throughout the season.

Near the end of B/C term break and C/D term break, camps are held in order to refine the show. During these camps, time is mainly spent in sectionals learning music, drill, or working on trouble spots. At the end of the day, the focus shifts to ensembling in order to fit everything together.

Winter percussion consists of 3 main sections: Drumline, Pit, and Visuals.

Visual members are essentially the color guard of winter percussion; they are actors and dances who bring the shows story to light.

The instruments offered for Drumline and Pit are detailed below:

Drumline: Marching Snare, Marching Tenor, Marching Bass, and Marching Cymbal

Front Ensemble/Pit: Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Synth, Drumset, and more!
