The WPI Winter Percussion was founded in the fall of 2023 by Tanner Young as an effort to expand the reach of the WPI Marching and Pep Band and introduce a competitive section of the marching band. In its inaugural season, the group finished 1st in the 2024 NESBA Percussion Independent Concert Open (PICO) finals.
Over time, the group has undergone constant growth. In 2025, the group transitioned to NESBA’s Percussion Independent Open (PIO) class, competed in 3 competitions, and won the NESBA PIO finals with their program “The Sound of Color” with a score of 80.6—a tremendous achievement solidifying the group’s position in New England.
Since its founding, the group has been completely student run. It is currently under the direction of Jeevan Baylis and Anthony Mangano. The group strives to continue to provide WPI students an opportunity to participate in winter percussion.
