Summary of Interview

Z works as a concierge at a four-star hotel in Hangzhou, China. After the lockdown in Wuhan, China began, her employer mandated all staff to wear gloves and face masks and began disinfecting the hotel three times a day. As the virus spread more, the Chinese Government paused all nonessential businesses, including hotels, and encouraged all citizens to stay at home. For Z, this was so boring that “it almost drove [her] crazy”. As the pandemic was brought under control in China, some businesses were allowed to open and Z got a temporary job at a factory to increase her income. Z fears that COVID-19 will come back into China from other countries. She hopes that in the future people around the world will focus more on fighting pandemics and less on blaming one another. She also believes that the Hangzhou will recover from the downturn and become a vibrant city again.
