WPI Undergraduate Student Government Association Structure

Student Services Cluster

• Committee on Student Affairs — Investigates and improves student life and academics; can meet with WPI faculty and administrators.
• Committee on Community Outreach — Plans SGA events like the Pep Rally, builds campus connections, and distributes merchandise.

Internal Services Cluster

• Committee on Internal Affairs — Oversees elections, maintains SGA governing documents, and ensures constitutionality of legislation.
• Committee on Marketing — Maintains SGA website and social media; publicizes SGA events; has internal and external chairs.

Financials Cluster

• Fiscal Responsibility and Assistance — Audits organizations receiving SGA funding; recommends sanctions for budget violations.
• Appropriations — Distributes SGA Treasury funds; prepares budgets; classifies organizations; serves on Financial Board.
• Fiscal Education — Educates student orgs on fiscal policies; conducts 4 yearly workshops.
• Fiscal Structure and Policy — Defines 8 organization classes (Special Interest, Club Sports, Campus Wide, Greek Life, etc.) and outlines funding rules and coverage rates.

Elections and Internal Processes

• Elections Mandate — Sets election timelines for Executive Board, Senate Chair, and Senators; uses ranked-choice voting.
• Appointed Representatives — Includes Technology Coordinator, Accountant, Financial Board Secretary, and Institute Committee Representatives.
• Special Project Sectors — Temporary sectors approved by the Senate for defined projects, dissolve at year’s end unless renewed.

Key Decision-Making Bodies

• Financial Board — Composed primarily of fiscal committees; chaired by Treasurer (non-voting); meets weekly for funding decisions.
• Cabinet — Formed by all Committee Chairs; collaborates across branches.
• Quorum — Most committees: 50% of members; Financial Board: 2/3 of members.

All SGA-funded events must be free for WPI undergraduates. The Student Life Fee is approved annually by a two-thirds Senate vote. Organizations that fail to report fund usage may lose budget eligibility. Appeals are available within 24 hours of any decision.
