The Systems Modeling and Engineering Research Laboratory (SMERL) focuses on two key research areas –

1. Policy Modeling – Building evidence-based policy analysis and demonstrating the value of using systems engineering methods in policy design, development and implementation.
2. Model based Safety Analysis for complex systems – Leveraging model-based systems engineering to integrate system design with safety analysis and automate the generation of safety artifacts.
