Since 2016, the Thessaloniki Project Center has been an important center for collaboration and innovation, connecting Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) undergraduate students with colleges, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations throughout Thessaloniki and neighboring communities. Working with local sponsoring organizations, students have completed highly impactful projects in a wide range of areas including but not limited to accessibility, sustainability, tourism, citizen science, environmental education, and inclusion and opportunity for marginalized communities.
Each spring, 24 students travel to Thessaloniki along with two faculty advisors to complete undergraduate research projects with local partners. Project teams are typically composed of four competitively selected students of science, engineering, management and the humanities who collaborate with a sponsoring organization on an important issue of social significance.
