Graduate Students

Athenia Jones

Athenia is a sixth year PhD student in Whittington lab. She earned her B.S in bioengineering from University of Maryland, College Park in 2019 (Go Terps!). Her research focuses on designing in vitro models of pancreatic cancer to include biophysical changes that occur to tumors during disease progression and signaling from fat cells. Outside of lab she likes to watch tv, crochet, and exercise!

Brian Ruliffson

Brian is a 6th year PhD student working on in vitro models of lymphatic vascular growth during fibrosis. His research utilizes methacrylated collagen to create a dynamically stiffening extracellular environment and a microfluidic chip to induce lymphatic vessel growth. In his free time Brian does musical theater, board games, and loves to cook.

Bryanna Samolyk

Bryanna Samolyk is a PhD student working on the vascularization of implantable skin scaffolds using decellularized leaf structures. She is using these naturally derived cellulose scaffolds as a provisional vascular bed to support vasculogenesis as well as a structure to enable the growth of a bi-layered skin system. During her free time, she enjoys crafts, playing board games, reading, and hiking.
