About our Sponsor

Our project sponsor was the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection or MassDEP for short. The MassDEP is the state agency  responsible for preserving and protecting the environmental resources in Massachusetts. The MassDEP’s mission is to ensure “clean air and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, the timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.” Our project was based out of the Water Resources department of the Boston Regional office. We worked mainly with Bruce Bouck, an environmental analyst at the MassDEP, but we received help from many other employees throughout the office. This included Alice Doyle (GIS Specialist), Andrew Durham (Environmental Analyst), and Catherine Sarafinas (Regional Planner).
