SK Day 2020

For SK Day this year we were under unusual circumstances due to the pandemic but we were so excited to come up with a way to still put on this wonderful event!

This event was held along with the WPI Mathematical Sciences department for local 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls. This year, due to COVID 19, SK Day was held on April 4th at 10 AM over Zoom! Even through the difficult circumstances, we had a great time doing math trivia and modeling with NetLogo. The aim of SK Day is to bolster the girls’ continued passion and enthusiasm for mathematics while meeting other girls who share similar interests and, of course, having fun!

Background on SK Day

Named in honor of Sonia Kovalevsky, the first female to obtain a Ph.D. in mathematics, Sonia Kovalevsky Days (or SK Days) are nationally-held, locally-organized outreach events with the aim of supporting and encouraging young women to continue their study of mathematics; for more info from the AWM, please see https://awm-math.org/programs/math-outreach/ .
