Dr. Becca Thomases is Professor and Department Chair of Mathematics at Smith College. She visited WPI in November to deliver a colloquium talk titled “Micro-organism locomotion in viscoelastic fluids.” AWM was honored to host a coffee hour with her before the talk!

Coffee and Crochet

This was a fun social event organized with WPI’s Crochet Club! Students enjoyed coffee, pastries, and conversation while learning how to crochet hyperbolic surfaces. This event was inspired by the creative work of Dr. Daina Taimiņa, retired adjunct associate professor of mathematics at Cornell University. (Read more about her work here.)

AWM hosted coffee, snacks, and conversation with Dr. Hom, who was awarded the 2024 Levi L. Conant Prize for her paper “Getting a handle on the Conway knot” (Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society, 59 (2021), 19–29). She delivered the 2024 Levi L. Conant Lecture at WPI.
