The Bailey-Hytholt Lab
We engineer biomaterials and drug delivery systems to address critical unmet needs for prenatal and women’s health
Research in the Bailey-Hytholt Lab applies chemical and bioengineering concepts including lipid and polymeric material assembly, molecular interaction studies, and engineering cellular microenvironments.
We develop in vitro models of the placenta, and we apply these to study cell interactions and drug delivery at the maternal-fetal interface. We formulate lipid-based drug and gene delivery vehicles towards treating pregnancy-related complications. We isolate and study extracellular vesicles to understand cell communication during pregnancy.
