Prof. Robert A. Peura Biomedical Engineering Founder Scholarship

Prof. Robert A. Peura Biomedical Engineering Founder Scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student majoring in biomedical engineering, thanks to the generosity of WPI alums, Dr. Alfred Potvin and Dr. Robert A. Peura.  The intent of the scholarship is to provide recognition and reward to a student majoring in BME at the junior or senior level who has achieved truly outstanding academic credentials.

BME Rising Juniors and Rising Seniors:

The BME Department has the honor of awarding a prestigious scholarship to an outstanding student majoring in biomedical engineering, thanks to the generosity of WPI alums, Dr. Alfred Potvin and Dr. Robert A. Peura.  The awardee will be named the Prof. Robert A. Peura Biomedical Engineering Founder Scholarship.  The scholarship of up to $15K will be administered by the Office of Student Aid & Financial Literacy and may replace current loans.

The intent of the Peura Founder Scholarship in Biomedical Engineering is to provide recognition and reward to a student majoring in BME at the junior or senior level who has achieved truly outstanding academic credentials.  Preferably, the awardee shall also be a well-rounded student who has graduated from a high school in Worcester County or New England; has distinguished himself/herself in at least one, and preferably two or more, university student activities including clubs, societies, team, groups, committees, and organizations; has provided exemplary service to the BME Department, the University, or the community; and possesses outstanding potential for professional success as a biomedical engineer.   A student may be recognized as the Undergraduate Scholar in BME for up to two years.

If you meet the specific criteria as detailed above, we urge you to consider applying for this scholarship.  Application material should detail how you have met each of the criteria.  This application material must include:

  1. an essay describing why you are deserving of this scholarship, how this scholarship would positively impact your undergraduate experience at WPI as well as your future career goals,
  2. a current resume,
  3. an unofficial WPI transcript and
  4. contact information for two references (please do NOT solicit or submit recommendation letters).

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Only BME students who WILL BE juniors or seniors with good academic and judicial standing in are eligible
