Department Awards

  • Prof. Robert A. Peura Biomedical Engineering Founder Scholarship
    • Prof. Robert A. Peura Biomedical Engineering Founder Scholarship is awarded annually to provide recognition and reward to a student majoring in BME at the junior or senior level who has achieved truly outstanding academic credentials.
  • Alfred R. and Janet H. Potvin Award
    • Alfred R. and Janet H. Potvin Awards in Biomedical Engineering are given annually to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students in biomedical engineering, in recognition of their academic performance and their service to WPI and/or the outside community.
  • Mackey Family Fellowship
    • Mackey Family Fellowships in Biomedical Engineering are given annually to outstanding graduate students in biomedical engineering, in recognition of their academic performance and their service to WPI and/or the outside community.
  • Sotak Excellence Award
    • Sotak Excellence Awards recognize excellence graduate students research and mentoring conducted in BME labs.
  • Undergraduate Research Award
    • The WPI Biomedical Engineering Outstanding Undergraduate Research Awards recognize research excellence in independent research projects conducted in WPI BME research labs.

University Awards

  • Bonnie-Blanche Schoonover Award
    • This award, honoring WPI’s former librarian, is given to one or more outstanding junior women students preparing for a career in engineering and science who have played a significant role at WPI.
  • Charles O. Thompson Scholar Outstanding Member of the Class
    • All Charles O. Thompson Scholars are eligible to compete for an award as Outstanding Member of the Class.
  • Crimson and Grey Awards
    • The Crimson & Gray Awards recognize students who demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities within the WPI community and acknowledge the significant contributions they have made to improve the quality of student life at the university.
  • Ellen Knott Award
    • This award, honoring a long-time secretary in the Mechanical Engineering Department, is given to one or more outstanding sophomore women students preparing for a career in engineering and science who have played a significant role at WPI.
  • Gertrude R. Rugg Award
    • This award, honoring WPI’s late Registrar, is given to one or more outstanding first-year women students preparing for a career in engineering and science who have played a significant role at WPI.
  • Marietta E. Anderson Award
    • This award is presented to the most outstanding first-year, sophomore, or junior woman student who not only has a superior academic record, but also has been a work-study student, a volunteer for college-sponsored activities, and participated in recognized extracurricular activities.
  • Peer Learning Assistant of the Year
    • This award recognizes outstanding undergraduate student instructional assistants who have made a significant contribution to the high quality education at WPI.
  • Salisbury Prize
    • Each academic department may nominate students who have completed all of their requirements “faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished attainment” for the Salisbury Prize.
  • Society of Women Engineers Scholarships
    • The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women admitted to accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs, in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science.
  • Teaching Assistant of the Year
    • The Teaching Assistant of the Year award recognizes the contributions graduate students make to the quality and success of WPI’s undergraduate curriculum.
  • Two Towers Prize
    • The Two Towers Prize is awarded to the student who, through general academic competence, campus leadership, regular course work, and special work in research and projects, best exemplifies a combined proficiency in the theoretical and practical union that is at the heart of the WPI educational tradition.
  • Wilmer L. and Margaret M. Kranich Prize
    • The Wilmer L. and Margaret M. Kranich Prize honors students majoring in engineering or science who best exemplify excellence in the humanities and arts and the integration of these disciplines into their undergraduate experience.

National Awards

  • Grand Challenge Scholars
    • The Grand Challenge Scholars Program recognizes graduates who have connected multiple learning experiences to develop competency in five areas to successfully address societal “grand challenges” in the areas of sustainability, health, security, and joy of living.
  • Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Fellowship
    • The National Science Foundation’s Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program funds new models for graduate education and training that emphasize collaborative, interdisciplinary research. IGERT programs prepare PhD-level scientists, engineers, and educators to be leaders and creative agents for change as members of a diverse, globally-engaged science and engineering workforce. WPI’s IGERT program helps students become international leaders in the field of biofabrication.
  • NIH-Oxford Cambridge Scholarship
    • This scholarship provides funding to study for a doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences at the National Institutes of Health and either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
  • National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships
    • The National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.
  • Rotary Foundation’s Ambassadorial Scholarships
    • The Rotary Foundation’s Ambassadorial Scholarships program is currently the world’s largest privately funded international scholarships program for university-level studies. Since 1947, nearly 38,000 men and women from about 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices.
  • Tau Beta Pi Scholarship
    • The Tau Beta Pi Association Scholarships are awarded to junior members in a national competition based on high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.
  • The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation
    • The Barry Goldwater Scholarship was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering.
