Application Information:
Mackey Family Fellowships in Biomedical Engineering are given annually to outstanding graduate students in biomedical engineering, in recognition of their academic performance and their service to WPI and/or the outside community. The intent of the fellowship is to provide recognition and reward to a PhD student majoring in BME who has achieved outstanding academic and research credentials and demonstrates a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. For junior PhD students, emphasis is placed on exemplary grades, strong potential to conduct outstanding independent research, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion both within and outside WPI. For senior PhD students, emphasis is placed on first-authored journal publications, research-related awards and/or recognition from relevant professional societies or conference meetings that demonstrate sustained research potential, as well a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion both within and outside WPI. The Mackey Fellow is invited to serve as a student representative to the BME DEI Committee for the following year.
A student may not be awarded more than twice in BME during the entire PhD work.
If you meet the specific criteria as detailed above, we urge you to consider applying for this fellowship. Application material should detail how you have met each of the criteria. This application material must include:
1) an essay describing why you are deserving of this fellowship and how this would positively impact your PhD experience at WPI as well as your future career goals. This could be because you come from a group or background that is not well represented within our current community, or could be demonstrated through activities both within and/or outside of the research lab or classroom.
2) a current resume or CV
3) an unofficial WPI transcript and
4) contact information for two references (please do NOT solicit or submit recommendation letters).
