Project Abstract
Dorchester Bay residents living in affordable housing deal with multiple mental and physical health issues due to poor housing conditions. Green and common spaces can help improve wellbeing by providing areas for relaxation, stress relief, physical activity and community. The project goal was to identify effective design methods that enhance the well-being of residents in affordable housing owned by the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation (EDC). Methods were established through handing out surveys, assessing existing common spaces of EDC properties, and visiting reference areas for inspiration. Our deliverables included a toolkit of options for designing common spaces and recommendations for the design of a backyard common space of one EDC owned property.
