Internships

It is generally well-known that engineering majors do well for compensated internship positions. At WPI, paid summer internships that run 3-4 months are tremendously popular with students and February-May is peak time for recruiting student interns. Talent ranges from highly motivated first-year students to graduate school students capitalizing on their experiences.

For those employers that host summer internships, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), in the 2012 Internship & Co-op Survey, has found that engineering and computer science majors are commanding the highest average wages among paid interns. Of those surveyed, 99.6% of internship positions are paid. The ranges are dynamic and vary by year in school, GPA, and other factors. However, the national averages for this upcoming summer are currently $18.54 per hour for engineering disciplines and $17.77 per hour for computer science/IT majors.

As companies evaluate wages for WPI students, we encourage you to utilize WPI average salary information that the Career Development Center collects and publishes as a free resource to students and employers.  Employers of WPI students can see salary data for specific majors and specific opportunity types.
