Visitor Use Management

Glacier National Park has seen a large increase in visitation over the past few years, exceeding 3 million visitors in 2017 with over 1 million of those visits in the month of July alone. Areas of the park hit gridlock with far more cars than available parking can accommodate, forcing temporary closures in Many Glacier, Two Medicine, and the North Fork to alleviate congestion.

The WPI team is analyzing the effectiveness of various congestion management measures to aid in providing recommendations for future management strategies. As part of the analysis, the team will also considering the feasibility of including cameras and webcams to monitor traffic patterns, parking lot congestion, etc.  The WPI team is providing Glacier with an analysis of the efficiency of various solutions, the effect on the visitor experience, capital costs, and an overall cost benefit analysis required to implement these solutions.
