How Do You Engage with Your Alma Mater?

Of the many ways alumni engage with WPI, philanthropic giving is one of the most meaningful and powerful. Giving back to their alma mater allows alumni to demonstrate gratitude for their collegiate experience and supports future students in impactful ways.

Management engineering major and star athlete Ama Biney ’18 made her first gift to WPI in 2018 as part of the Class Giving program (formerly Senior Class Gift) and has continually supported the university with gifts to multiple funds, from scholarships and Areas of Greatest Need to WPI’s softball and basketball programs, which are especially near and dear to her heart.

I try to play my part by giving back because I want the WPI experience to be even better for the next person

When asked why it is important for her to engage with the university in this way, she says, “My four years at WPI shaped me into a young woman that was able to take on the real world. I will always root for WPI. A volunteer event? I’m there. Donation time? Rightfully within my means. An interview? No problem. Again,
I can only hope that others can have the special time at WPI that I had. Any way that I can assist with that,
I always will. The WPI community has supported me in my academic/athletic endeavors and even in my outside endeavors after graduating. They have my back, and I will always have theirs!”

She reminds fellow alumni that just because they have graduated, that doesn’t mean their connection to WPI has ended. “There are always ways to stay involved with the school and students who share your interests, whether it is volunteering, donating, visiting, or all of the above. There is a reason you chose to come to WPI at just 18 years old. Please never lose sight of that.”
