Read StoryJames “Jamo” L. Carr Jr. ’74, CEO of H. Carr & Sons and a strong supporter of WPI athletics, passed away on July 6, 2025.
After receiving his degree in civil engineering, Carr joined H. Carr & Sons, the interior contracting firm founded by his grandfather. His stewardship of the company helped it to grow in stature. Prominent projects included the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Gillette Stadium, the Boston Arts Academy, the Providence Place mall, and WPI’s Rubin Campus Center.
Carr’s support of WPI athletics has been instrumental. He co-chaired the Sports and Recreation Center building campaign, helping to raise millions of dollars for the project. The Carr Family Fund for Athletics continues to support the department in multiple ways, including funding the new throwing area on Park Avenue and various other facility renovations. The field at Alumni Stadium was recently named the H. Carr Field in honor of his generosity and support through the years.
