3. Yoga Mat
The yoga mat is a physical and a psychological place. Teachers say, “Just come back to the mat and trust your practice.” I often start my days with Ashtanga yoga as a way to connect with my breath, body, and mind as I wake up and meet the day.
4. Wombat
I fell in love with wombats while advising in Melbourne, Australia. This is one of a family of stuffed wombats that I acquired from different wildlife sanctuaries in Victoria. Wombats belong in the wild, but I would have one as a pet if it were ethical.
5. Teapot
I enjoy offering tea or coffee to others when they are visiting or meeting with me in my office.
6. Family Portrait
This is a picture of me with my father and grandfather outside my childhood home. Even though I couldn’t speak Cantonese and he spoke limited English, I loved spending time with my grandfather during his visits and my trips to Hong Kong.
Singing Bowl
Like people, each singing bowl expresses its own unique sound and vibration. I “invite the bell to sound” in my academic and wellness and physical education classes to mark the beginning and end of sitting meditation.
