We are pleased to share that the Multi Scale Heat Transfer Laboratory researcher and WPI student, Alex Castaneda, successfully defended his PhD entitled, “Understanding Heat Transfer Characteristics of Oscillating Electrohydrodynamic Conduction Pumping in the Presence and Absence of Phase Change” on April 14, 2025. His theoretical, numerical, and experimental work explored the impact of electrical field-imposed flow oscillation on liquid/vapor phase change heat transfer in transient and steady state modes, as well as the electrohydrodynamic and electrophoresis driven heat transport device performance in the presence and absence of gravity.

His advisor was Professor Jamal Yagoobi.

Congratulations, Dr. Castaneda!
