EHD driven single-phase liquid impinging jet

This is an impinging jet driven by an electrohydrodynamic conduction pump and the design is based on numerical simulations of identical geometry. The pump is made of six electrode pairs arranged in a vertical configuration with the exit of the pump above a flat heated surface. The experiment consists of a glass tank which is sealed and filled with liquid (working fluid is refrigerant HCFC-123), so that the pump is completely immersed in the liquid. The operation of the pump results in significant fluid circulation and a unique velocity profile at the exit of the jet, compared to conventional impinging jets. This also results in a corresponding increase in the convection heat transfer coefficient. Results are compared with natural convection above the heated surface without the EHD pump activated.
