Walker Research Group
Our research group is focused on the development of new, innovative technology for the purification of water. Our work is collaborative and interdisciplinary in nature, integrating knowledge from environmental engineering, chemistry, molecular biology, policy and other fields. Our research investigates new approaches for water purification at a variety of scales, from laboratory-scale experiments to demonstrate proof-of-concept to full-scale field trials to assess technical and economic feasibility. Recent projects have focused on the development of “Nitrogen Removing Biofilters (NRBs),” constructed wetlands, and other approaches for the removal and/or recovery of nutrients from wastewater, the development and application of novel membrane materials, and the removal of emerging contaminants, such as cyanotoxins and 1,4 dioxane, from drinking water.
