Theme: Communication in a Virtual World
Medium: Multimedia (graphite, pen, colored pencil, and colored paper)
Artist Statement: This multimedia piece (graphite, pen, colored pencil, and colored paper) is titled “Connecting…” and focuses on the theme of Communication in a Virtual World. A graphite portrait of a woman in profile was drawn to evoke imagery of isolation, though her earring shows a heart exposed and open. The swirling background of shades of blue that surround the woman represents the confusion and complexity of these times. However, an opportunity blooms and in a bouquet of flowers are icons from a Zoom video call – a call with 7 billion people. We may all be physically distanced, but with innovations in technology, we are able to access the small miracle of having the space between us seem to cease to exist.
