Artist Statement:
This artwork, Navigating Troubled Waters, explores the theme of Ourselves in the World. The person depicted is wading in shallow water and is surrounded by forms that resemble naval mines with the structure of the coronavirus. Since we can only see the person’s feet it is impossible to tell if they are aware of the danger all around them, adding to the sense of discomfort in the piece. The danger, discomfort, and sense of the unknown are all a part of how we exist and try to navigate the world today.
